The Perfusion Department is based in theatres at Hammersmith Hospital and manages Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) during cardiac surgery ( theatres 3, 4 & 5).
Our Perfusionists assist with Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) management and peri-operative cell salvage which is routinely used during cardiac surgery.
An introduction to CPB will be given on one of your Thursday morning teaching sessions and the chance to sit alongside a perfusionist during a case. This really helps provide insights into the language and interaction between the multi-disciplinary Heart team.

Out of hours, a perfusionist is on-call from home (nb). Contact details and the Perfusionist on-call rota is on the noticeboard in the Doctors Office in A6/CICU or via switchboard.
